AudioThing refreshes miniBit + miniVerb: cleaner workflow, modern OS support, and more chiptune control

Two retro tools that still earn a spot in modern sessions
AudioThing has updated miniBit (8-bit / chiptune synth) and miniVerb (retro console-style echo/reverb). These are the kind of plugins you reach for when you want a very specific vibe fast—tracker-era movement, aliased waveforms, crunchy delay/reverb tricks—and you don’t want the “retro” part to include workflow friction.
Note on versions: AudioThing’s own update listings currently show miniBit v1.7 and miniVerb v1.2.1 as the latest publicly listed builds on their site (with modern OS compatibility and plugin formats).

miniBit: what it is + why it’s still useful
miniBit is a focused chiptune synth with intentionally non-bandlimited waveforms (hello aliasing), a sub oscillator, and a built-in stepper/sequencer that can animate multiple destinations. It’s great for anything from authentic chiptune leads to “chip texture” layered under modern drums.
- Oscillators: 18 waveforms + sub oscillator, plus custom waveform editor.
- Motion: synced 8-step sequencer/stepper for pitch, volume, cutoff/resonance, waveform, downsampling.
- Extras: onboard bitcrusher and delay for instant retro grit.
- Formats/OS: widely available as VST2/VST3/AU/AAX/CLAP (platform-dependent), plus standalone on desktop.

miniVerb: the “console reverb trick” in plugin form
miniVerb is built around an old-school technique: using short delays and limited resources to create a sense of space. It recreates that classic slapback/echo-to-reverb illusion, then expands it with filters, vibrato, and a crusher stage for controlled lo-fi.
- Echo: single or double delay line mode for wider and more modern echoes.
- Tone shaping: pre/post filters (LP/HP).
- Character: vibrato + crusher (bit-crusher, downsampler, pitch shifter).
- Formats/OS: VST2/VST3/AU/AAX/CLAP on modern macOS/Windows/Linux (host support varies).

A practical way to hear miniBit’s sweet spot is to watch it inside a full chiptune workflow (melody + drums + movement).
