Novation Launch Control XL 3 Firmware v1.1: HUI Support, Better MIDI Routing, and Smoother Mixing

A Firmware Update That Actually Changes the Workflow

Novation’s Launch Control XL 3 is already a standout for hybrid studios—eight faders, 24 endless encoders, fast custom modes, and 5‑pin MIDI alongside USB. Firmware v1.1 is the first major quality-of-life update, and it focuses on the things that matter in real sessions: DAW control compatibility, MIDI routing flexibility, and less “parameter jumping” when you touch the hardware.

What’s New in Launch Control XL 3 v1.1

  • HUI support: improves control-surface compatibility for DAWs and mixer workflows that expect HUI-style control mapping.
  • Expanded MIDI routing: more flexible USB↔DIN passthrough options for hybrid setups and external gear control.
  • Adjustable encoder response: tune the feel for more precise parameter moves (great for EQ, sends, and synth macro control).
  • Fader pickup option: prevents abrupt value jumps—your mix stays stable until the fader “catches” the current value.
  • Fader preview on OLED: press Shift, touch a fader, and see the parameter value before committing a move.
  • Faster Custom Mode selection: quicker switching when you’re jumping between rigs, instruments, or templates.

Why This Matters for Hybrid Studios

The real win is routing: if you’re controlling a DAW while also driving external synths, drum machines, or effects racks, the ability to cleanly pass and filter MIDI between USB and DIN can remove a surprising amount of friction. Pair that with fader pickup and OLED previews, and the controller becomes far more “mix safe.”

Update Notes

Firmware v1.1 is installed via Novation’s Components platform. If you use Launch Control XL 3 as a front-line mixing controller, enable fader pickup and set encoder response to match your preferred resolution (fine for gain staging, faster for sound design).
