Three Body Technology’s Future MB: multiband dynamics with Delta Matrix control

Three-Body Technology has introduced Future MB, a multiband dynamics processor that’s less about “set-and-forget crossovers” and more about precision control where you actually need it. Instead of forcing you to split the entire spectrum just to tame one problem area, Future MB lets you place up to six bands wherever the material demands it, then shape dynamics inside each band using a three-stage engine.

The headline feature is the company’s Delta Matrix: a routing concept where the gain changes (“deltas”) created by one band can be used to drive behavior in other bands. That turns multiband dynamics from a purely subtractive tool into something closer to an energy re-distribution system—useful for corrective work, but also for creative “push/pull” movement on buses and full mixes.

Bands without rigid crossovers

Future MB’s band model is intentionally flexible. You can instantiate isolated bands to work on a tight frequency zone without touching the rest of the spectrum, or snap bands together into a traditional crossover network when you want classic multiband behavior. Slopes can be dialed from gentle to steep, which matters when you’re deciding whether you want a musical transition between bands or surgical separation.

Three-stage dynamics per band (Gate, Upward/Spike, Compressor/Ducking)

Inside each band you get a switchable three-stage chain: a Gate for cleaning tails and controlling spill, an Upward stage (with a Spike mode for upward expansion), and a Compressor stage that can be flipped into Ducking mode for more intentional pumping. This design is the real reason Future MB feels different: you’re not limited to “compress this band” as your only move. You can lift low-level detail in a narrow region, spike transients in another, and clamp tails elsewhere—all in one coherent layout.

For practical mixing, that translates into workflows like: add transient impact to the upper midrange of a drum room while simultaneously tightening the low-end bloom, or raise the articulation band of a vocal without dragging up the noise floor of the whole track. The “Upward with dual-threshold” approach is positioned as a way to target quiet musical detail while leaving the very bottom of the signal untouched.

Delta Matrix: dynamics that can move across the spectrum

The Delta Matrix is where Future MB aims beyond traditional multiband processing. Instead of treating each band’s gain reduction as the end of the story, the plugin can route those deltas to other bands—positively or inversely. In plain English: when one area gets pushed down, you can use that motion to lift or suppress another area. On a mix bus, this opens up “adaptive” tonal movement (for example, trading low-mid density for upper-mid clarity) without riding EQ manually.

Detection focus with Priority EQ + phase modes

Future MB also provides a per-band Priority EQ for sidechain/detection emphasis. That’s a big deal when you want broadband impact but narrowband triggering—for instance, compressing the mid band while reacting primarily to a resonant snare ring or vocal sibilance region. You don’t have to overly narrow the band itself just to hit the right trigger point.

On the phase/latency side, the plugin offers multiple phase modes (including linear-phase and a “Liquid Phase” concept) so you can choose between immediacy and strict phase behavior depending on the job. For transient-critical material you’ll care about how the crossover behavior feels on drums; for full-mix glue you’ll care about how stable the stereo image remains under heavy movement.

Compatibility and workflow notes

Future MB is positioned as a modern, high-precision processor with features like oversampling, spectrum analysis, and a compact mode for building simplified “signature” views of complex setups.
